A week's worth of menus and nutrient-packed recipes are designed to reduce the signs and symptoms of aging. --- "American Dietetic Association Complete Food and Nutrition Guide" (3rd edition) by Roberta Larson Duyff; Wiley, $24.95 The "complete" in the title is no exaggeration....

Wyoming planners, council closing in on land-use plan

It appears the details have been ironed out at a joint meeting last week, and the city is in the final stages of adopting its Land Use Plan 2020. The City Council was expected to review the plan at last night's work session, make changes, and send the revised plan back to the Planning Commission in time for tonight's meeting. The land use plan, charting what city leaders envision Wyoming looking like in the year 2020, provides a plan for development and guides where certain uses are best suited. Much of the concern of this update has centered on the Wilson Avenue corridor, which has just become a four-lane road connecting the Rivertown Crossings Mall area with M-6, the South Beltline. "Right now we're looking at a plan," said Planning Commission member Gerald Dieterman....

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Travel Oregon's third annual Oregon Bounty celebration is showing early signs of success for enticing Oregonians and out-of-state visitors to enjoy Oregon's harvest season. Participants from Oregon's seven regions are reporting unprecedented consumer response at their Oregon Bounty events. Liz Wan of Troon Vineyard in Grants Pass said, "We nearly doubled our attendance from last year." Lisa McDonald of Bend Cottages in Central Oregon said, "I would like to tell you how great the boost in business is! My repeat guests, as well as new travelers to the area, are enjoying the 'discovery' of the fall season in Bend." And event sponsors at Silvan Ridge-Hinman Vineyards, partnered with Marche Restaurant, said their Oregon Bounty Harvest Dinner "was a huge hit." With three weekends remaining in the 2006 Oregon Bounty, it's too early to assess the promotion's economic impacts....

Caribbean country club

"He has superb taste in wine," Joe Flo says with a grin. My dinner mate at Blanchard's restaurant just steps from the turquoise sea is referring to Robert De Niro and his passion for a $375 bottle of 1994 Domaine Bouchard Pere & fils Grand Cru Burgundy. As we exchange celebrity gossip, Flo, the reigning domino champ, suggests we order the oven-crisped mahi mahi with coconut, lime and ginger and a glass of a less luxurious chardonnay. My mission is to investigate the Caribbean art of living the good life, no, make that the grand life. I am in Anguilla (rhymes with vanilla), the uber-chic sliver of sybaritic Shangri-la where a night in paradise isn't complete until the butler delivers beluga caviar and Cristal Champagne to your patio under the starry sky....

An inn in Victoria loaded with charm

Heathergate House Bed & Breakfast 122 Simcoe St. Victoria, British Columbia Victoria, British Columbia, for most visitors, is the hubbub at Inner Harbour, where street performers spin their magic in the shadow of the stately provincial legislative buildings and the colonial-style Fairmont Empress hotel. But there are quieter corners of this former British outpost, among them James Bay, the city's oldest residential neighborhood just a 15-minute walk south of the harbor's buzz. And tucked among the wooden cottages and two-story homes--many painted in salmon, pale yellow and moss green, and brightened by small, lushly blooming gardens--is Heathergate House Bed & Breakfast, whose original structure is a stucco shipbuilder's cottage....

New Online Restaurant Guide Focused on Philly

DiningInfo.com, a new kind of online restaurant guide, was launched today. It is initially focused only on the Philadelphia area, but may expand into other areas in the future. DiningInfo's home page is a Quick-Find page, designed to facilitate finding a restaurant by name, cuisine or proximity to any address. An Advanced Search page is also available, which expands the search options and provides links to 90 other dining and wine-related websites. In addition to basic information about 1185 local restaurants, DiningInfo provides a direct link to each of the 740 restaurants that have their own website. It also provides information about each restaurant's wine service and BYO (Bring Your Own Wine) policies, not available elsewhere. That information was originally introduced in June by BYOPhilly.com, which has been absorbed by DiningInfo.com....

Bargain or blow out

About 700 miles north of Vancouver, on a lonely snow-covered road that pushes on to the Yukon and Alaska, is a petrol station. There's not much traffic - just the occasional juggernaut swishing past, ferrying collossal tree trunks out of the wilderness and south to civilisation. Sometimes a truck pulls in, and the driver jumps down from his cab and scuttles quickly inside, to warm up with a polystyrene cup of coffee. Few probably even realise that they've stopped at one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the world. Or notice that, round the back of the building, there's an outdoor hot tub where Swiss bankers and English entrepreneurs sit among the rising steam, drinking wine and smoking cigars to celebrate another great day's skiing. This is the domain of Last Frontier Heli-skiing, a ski operation so extravagant it borders on the absurd....
