| | | 'Man of the Year' may not win the popular vote | | Posted Saturday, October 21, 2006 11:11:44 AM by Blog57 Team | | "Man of the Year" is a creepy hybrid of talk-show chatter and a political thriller. A bunch of monologues and comedy club improvisation hung on dental floss for these stunning revelations: politicians lie, power corrupts and electronic voting machines are flawed. Robin Williams nails it as Tom Dobbs, a "Daily Show"-type political comedian who runs for president and wins. His platform, discussed at length with his aides (Lewis Black and Christopher Walken) is simply no special interests! No advertising! Dobbs talks up environment a bit, but mostly he ridicules his opponents in a showy debate that immediately brands "Man of the Year" a shameless, cynical pander equal to any candidate. Meanwhile, computer engineer Eleanor Green (Laura Linney) discovers a glitch in her company's touch-screen voting system that unfairly delivers Dobbs the victory.... | |

| | | Saunders: NBC comedy 'peas' find pod | | Posted Wednesday, October 11, 2006 3:10:04 PM by Blog57 Team | | The NBC programming schedule is confusing, even for the confused world of network television. Saturday Night Live, created by Lorne Michaels, has been around since 1975. In recent years the once sharp-witted series has fallen on lean times. Creatively, SNL is in deep trouble. So how does NBC rectify this troublesome situation? By airing two fall series about a late-night comedy-variety series in trouble creatively. Premiering last month was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Aaron Sorkin's hour-long Monday night drama designed to chronicle the backstage life of a late-night sketch-comedy show much like SNL. Premiering tonight is 30 Rock, a half-hour comedy designed to chronicle the backstage life of a late-night sketch-comedy show much like SNL. Two creative peas in one network pod.... | |
