Zopp owned several restaurants, a catering business and a painting business, restored a floundering local Moose Lodge, sponsored countless youth sports teams and was elected to the Bowling Hall of Fame. "He was a busy guy," his daughter, Shannon Edmondson of Johnson City said. "Not one of those guys who was a gardener -- his hobby was work." Although he had a garden, too, Edmondson said. Larry Zopp, 71, of Johnson City, died Tuesday after a monthslong battle with cancer. Mr. Zopp was well-known as the owner of Zopp's Lounge on Henry Street in downtown Binghamton and Zopp's II in Johnson City, where customers came to try the "Zoppburger." | | | Millionaires flaunt their riches in Moscow | | Posted Monday, November 06, 2006 3:23:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | Out of gift ideas for the holiday season? Businesses catering to Russia's millionaires suggest a $1.3 million diamond-encrusted cellphone, a $500,000 racehorse or -- if you're really short of cash -- a $70,000 mini airplane. These are among the items on display at the Millionaire Fair in Moscow this week -- a screaming showcase of the country's oil-driven wealth and the free-spending ways of its nouveau riche. In some ways, the event was testimony to how far Russia has come since the communist era 15 years ago. Russia now has an estimated 33 billionaires and up to 90,000 millionaires, and Moscow is home to more rich people than New York. Yet the fair, held in a gleaming shopping mall on the capital's northern outskirts, also served as a bleak reminder of the tremendous gap between the small group of the extraordinarily wealthy and the nearly one-fifth of Russians who live below the poverty line of $410 per month....

When Lasse Hallstrom went looking for the right piece of Newfoundland coastline to film his movie adaptation of Annie Proulx's novel “The Shipping News," he discovered Trinity Bight, a small harbour of paradise on the Bonavista Peninsula. And when filming was about to commence, the stars of the film — Dame Judy Dench, Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett — discovered the Fishers' Loft Inn and Fowlow's superb cooking. The Fishers' Loft, one of the province's finest inns, is built in the local vernacular architectural style, using local building materials and local craftsmen....

It's no problem for Dominick Pollino, who has a fledgling business based in Clawson called RX Catering. But there was a time when Pollino couldn't scramble up a meal for himself. Pollino, who now lives in Royal Oak, is one of the SOS success stories everyone was talking about Wednesday at the agency's 20th anniversary celebration at Birmingham Unitarian Church, Bloomfield Hills. "What I learned at SOS is that who I was wasn't as important as who I wanted to become," Pollino told a crowd of SOS board members, supporters and volunteers....

It may be particularly intimidating for single women with safety concerns or other worries about being alone in a foreign land. But that's no excuse to stay at home. Web sites specializing in women's travel offer a host of opportunities, from luxury travel to rugged outdoor adventures. Most of the sites were founded by women for women, and many seek to create a safe environment that allows women to form bonds of friendship while seeing the world. Cheryl Fleet began the travel company Canyon Calling after noticing that some women in coed travel groups didn't speak up. Fleet writes on her Web page — www.canyoncalling.com — that women who vacation together in the outdoors "bond quickly and forgive each other's little quirks....
